LEXINGTON, KY. (August 14, 2019) – The AVCA is excited to announce a few updates regarding the Under Armour High School All-America Volleyball program. These changes will go into effect for the 2019 fall season, and impact both the awards and match aspects of the program.
The Under Armour All-America Match Volleyball brings the best 24 high school seniors from across the country to compete against each other on the same court. The tradition of the First-Team All-America selections making up the 24 athletes will continue in 2019. It is typical to see every player on the roster head to NCAA Division I institutions, and has turned into a must-see event to watch the college stars of tomorrow. This year, the match will be played in late December/early January in Orlando, FL (exact date, time, and venue TBD) in conjunction with the broader portfolio of Under Armour All-America events. The Under Armour All-America Football Game will take place at Camping World Stadium in Orlando, FL on January 2nd which, like the volleyball match, feature the nation’s top high school seniors from their sport.
The Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match began in 2008 with the previous 11 matches having taken place in the host city of the AVCA Convention and NCAA Division I Volleyball Championship. Exactly 264 high school seniors have entertained tens of thousands of fans in many of the nation’s top indoor venues like the Sprint Center in Kansas City, MO, the Target Center in Minneapolis, MN., and the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, NE.
Nominations are currently being accepted for the 2019 AVCA Phenom / Under Armour All-America Watch List. In order to be eligible, the senior must have received some recognition for their outstanding volleyball play and their high school head coach must have an active AVCA membership. Both watch lists will be announced on August 30, and the nomination link can be found by clicking here.
Additional details will be announced later this fall.
